M56 weekend closure

Event
M56 weekend closure
Event start date
Duration
2.5 days - till 06:00 hrs on Monday 12th Sept.

THERE will be a full weekend closure of the M56 near Lymm, related to “smart” motorway works

Diversions will be in place for people travelling to Manchester airport - plan ahead.

Planned work requires that the motorway will be totally closed for a whole weekend in September – & will subsequently open with to 60mph speed restrictions with an extra lane on both the westbound and eastbound carriageways.

National Highways is upgrading the motorway between junction 6 at Hale and junction 8 at Bowdon, adding an extra lane in each carriageway and technology to help smooth drivers’ journeys through this section of the network.
This section of the motorway will be totally closed for the weekend – from 9pm on Friday 9 September to 6am on Monday 12 September.

The eastbound M56 will be closed from junction 9 at Lymm interchange with the M6 to junction 5 for Manchester Airport; the westbound carriageway will be closed from junction 5 to junction 8 at Bowdon. Clearly-signed diversions will be in place.

Cherry Lane in Lymm will remain closed (due to separate work) and the Warburton Cantilever Bridge will have the one way traffic lights in operation (due to separate 'work') over this same period.
