This year's May Queen is on Saturday 18th May 2024.

it is expected that the event will be held solely in the village centre in 2024 due to the state of the May Queen field following the wet autumn and winter (the drought warnings of August 2023 are SO last year!)

The May Queen website is the place to go for the latest updates, schedules and the revised layout for 2024.

Expect an incredible event crammed with stalls and activities, though with changes to accommodate the space restrictions.

Expect the village centre to be VERY busy for the procession passing through. Brookfield Road & Eagle Brow usually have more space to view the procession.

Road Closures

The 2023 road closures & times are replicated below (2024 expected to be similar but likely in a different sequence!!) - will be updated when confirmed):

“The following road closures will be in place on the day to allow the May Queen procession to proceed through the village, from approximately 11.30am through to 1.30pm.

To help minimise the impact of the road closures, the timing of each road closure is different, as outlined below.

  • Brookfield Road (11.30am – 12.15pm)
  • Davies Way (11.30am – 12.15pm)
  • Brookfield Close (11.30am – 12.15pm)
  • Brookfield Road/Eagle Brow (11.45am – 12.30pm)
  • Henry Street (11.45am – 12.30pm)
  • Bridgewater Street (11.45am – 12.40pm)
  • The Dingle/ The Grove (11.45am – 1.30pm)
  • Rectory Lane (11.45am – 1.30pm)
  • Pepper Street (11.45am – 1.30pm)
  • 10. GroveRise(11.45am–1.30pm)
  • 11. The Peppers/ Crossfield Ave/ Fairfield Road/ Orchard Ave (11.45am – 1.30pm)

Please note that these are approximate times and therefore closures may be in place slightly earlier and/or later than anticipated.

The participants in the procession will line up along Brookfield Road and the parade will commence from this location at 12pm. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused in particular to residents and we appreciate your patience and understanding.”
