Litter

If you want to / are able to pick up litter on a regular basis, it's worth getting a litter picker stick, consider gloves & a hi-vis vest - contact either the Lymm Litter Network Facebook Group or Keep Lymm Kleen group for details / orders.

During 2021, a couple of enthusiastic residents have set up the Big Lymm Clean Up, to focus on what can be done to remove and prevent litter.

Like most places, Lymm whilst attractive and popular, suffers a little from litter, more so during Covid-19 as an unfortunate side effect of people getting out and enjoying the outdoors.

If you see a litter problem and can't pick it up, there are a number of options-

  • Mention it in one of the Facebook groups for Lymm - suggest if anyone is passing & they can pick up. Please try to be specific on the location - ideally use a what3words location
  • Mention it on the Lymm Litter Facebook Group - a closed Facebook group so expect a short wait to be 'let in', should be dealt with quickly. This is the preferred approach as if there are themes then they will get followed up with the Parish Council / Warrington Borough Council.
  • Mention the litter on the Keep Lymm Kleen Facebook Group (an open Facebook Group - anyone can see & post - run by the Parish Council), who also in normal times arrange litter picking days. This group maintain an email list to notify of litter picking days & will be resurrected soon.
  • Drop a note via this site's contact form which will get passed on - as above be specific about location.
  • Contact Lymm Parish Council, who will try to sort the problem (strictly not the Parish Council's job, however everyone on the Parish Council lives in the village and will go out of their way to solve such a problem).
  • Raise a request via Warrington Borough Council (the 'official' route), responsiveness varies.
  • Hazardous issues (chemical / oil / needles) should be notified to Warrington Borough Council ideally by phone on 01925 443322, WBC do respond quickly to reports. Ideally pop a note once you've done this on the Lymm Litter Facebook page so that people know it's in hand.
  • Dead animals - Warrington Borough Council again, WBC seem to respond really quickly.
  • Overflowing bins - Warrington Borough Council, though Lymm Parish Council & the Lymm Litter Facebook Group will co-ordinate & pester which is probably more likely to achieve results. WBC seem to empty bins on a weekly basis, so it's common for bins to fill up over the weekend until they are next emptied. The fix appears to be more / bigger bins, rather than more frequent emptying by WBC, but please report if it's a problem.

If you are litter picking and need of somewhere to place litter, there's a bin map (yay!) here, if you can't take the litter home to put in your own bin.
